    My favorite one is the viola, but I've always played the violin due to the biggest repertoire, as I play principally to please myself. I don’t like neither the low notes of the cello nor the highs of the violin. Someday I'll learn the viola.

    How do I keep my finger from sliding when doing vibrato?

    • @violinlab
      @violinlab День назад

      Ultimately, one must find the balance between enough finger pressure so that the finger doesn't move, while the remainder of the hand is relaxed enough to allow the knuckles to move. Most likely you have too much thumb pressure.

    So what the difference between second and first position is second position count like moving to the next string without having to or what?

    • @violinlab
      @violinlab День назад

      Yes, sometimes it's better to stay on one string, so 2nd position can be helpful in that way.

    What is the best violin scale book to purchase? ( By practicing my scales it should help me read notes in higher position and read them with ease. I play in an orchestra. I want to move from second violin to first violin. To do this, I need to read higher position.)

    • @violinlab
      @violinlab 16 дней назад

      I love the Barbara Barber series. The scales for advanced players is concise and easy to use, yet covers all the bases.

    As the bow is drawn.....the right wrist changes from high to low. The tilt changes from frog to tip. I believe that's the Russian school, right? I was taught this way from the beginning.

    • @violinlab
      @violinlab 16 дней назад

      I'm not sure about the tilt changing. I've yet to see that happen in professional playing. It's worth studying the greats. Watch Heifetz and examine his bow tilt.

    Thanks for your course. You advanced my playing a lot. I would like to ask may be you can explain: one violin teacher said to me and never explained: "Help to your left hand with your right hand" And she studied in Vienna conservatory so she knows what to say, but it is kind of "meme" for me for a very long period of time.

    • @violinlab
      @violinlab 23 дня назад

      I just think your teacher meant that since the hands influence each other, particularly in regards to holding tension, when you learn to play with relaxation in one hand it will benefit the other. She also might have meant that sometimes we blame the left hand when really, it's the right hand that is subtly causing problems. Either way, she's correct. The left hand will be more in tune and relaxed when we master control with the bow. Strange how that happens.

    As for chin rests and shoulder rests, I've finally come round to playing with neither (as Ricci said in his 80s: "I should have started like this"). Just goes to show: whatever works for you! I'd recommend giving it a fair try - it will feel alarming at first. Maybe ditch the shoulder rest first. I went through a period of practicing without and performing with.

    Thank you for demonstrating different tuning systems. Looking back I realise I never had a teacher who even seemed to be aware of them until I took up the viola at age 32. He never used the words just or pythagorean but told me what to check against what.

    • @violinlab
      @violinlab 26 дней назад

      You're welcome. Tuning systems is a huge topic and I took the time to understand it. Many musicians intuit intonation and don't even know how they are bending from one tuning system to the next.

    Thank you for your vote of confidence on sight reading violin music. I took music theory at a community college and none of it made any sence to me. Particularly the circle of fifths. It was as cmplicated as chess. And your right, i dont sight read every day. I dont know if.its the lines or the dots that are more confusing. Tablature for violin? I think i had trouble even with that andguitar. Guess i better go extremely slow. I remember trying to read suzuki in moms kitchen. Wow i was slow! My vi Olin was probably way out of tune with saggy gut flattening everything its been at least 40 years. If youcan teach me how to read music id be astounded! Thank you for trying to help me read music.😅

    Love your Vivaldi concerto. I'm currently working on YOU think I said it all by Olivia Newton John. For some odd reason my violin seems to like mimicking her voice. I like light country occasionally. Ordinarily I aim at classical to baroque, but I do like Cheryl Crow and Abba which back in the 80s I played telecaster then into the 90s I bought a Les Paul Gibson and played Norweigian WOOD and Abba favorites. Can you tell me is it possible for a violin string set to hold its voicing or is a violin string set constantly changing valance and tambour? Sometimes my violin sounds country othertimes orchestral like Rondeau. Anyway, just thought I would let you know what I was working on. ACCORDING TO Pinkus Zucherman, his violin he never knows what's going to come out of it! I applaud his honesty, I think I'm the same way. Bye for now. P. S. I tryed your stocking tie around the neck and tailpiece, it seemed to help! Thank you for the idea! I'm in the process of trying to master vibrato and the security of the stocking takes away some of the fear I might drop the instrument. I spent some intimate time measuring string length last night and at 328mm I got the Olivia Newton John tambour! MY bridge is extremely thin at the top edge and I've used clear nail polish to varnish the bridge. I think there is maybe two coats of clear nail polish on the bridge; otherwise the bridge would probably buckle with A 440 tuning. Thank you for your wonderful teaching. Bye😅

    If I play more on the pads of my fingers, then my pinky doesn't reach it's position. If I play on the tips of my fingers, my pinky will reach it's note. But then my finger tips will hurt.

    I dont dispute Cognitive science. Mind mapping info into long term memory requires spaced repetition. Review after 10min, review after a day, after a week after a month, after 3 months ,after 6 months. Associations help us remember. Problematic musical phrase: very choppy rhythm associate it with a butcher chopping on a cutting board. Use the full range of cortical skills. From Tony Busan, Mind Maps.

    Omg, you are a genious and I can't thank enough. I've been always wondering and questioning my private tutor, why my bow bounces so much when I relax all my shoulder and arm muscles as I was told and just pull the bow and still shakes crazy and why my tutors bow never looked straight down to the strings but always tilted in an angle when she plays(only looked perpendicular when she demonstrates an example), and my tutor never had the answer for my itchness. And I stopped taking her tuition and started to practice on my own, doing a lots of trials looking in to the mirror and make small adjustments for like 4 months, and BOOM, found your video and fixed in a 30 mins. This is insanity. THANK YOU🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
